The High Street We Miss: Woolworths
For decades, Woolworths was more than just a shop. It was a Saturday ritual — a place where children spent their pocket money, families bought everything from kitchenware to records, and everyone seemed to come home with that little red-and-white striped bag.
Founded in the UK in 1909, “Woolies” quickly became a fixture of the high street. At its height, more than 800 stores were dotted across the country — each one packed with memories.
Pick ’n’ Mix Magic
Nothing summed up Woolworths better than the legendary Pick ’n’ Mix stand. Rows of brightly coloured sweets behind clear plastic lids, the joy of choosing “just one more” chocolate eclair or fizzy cola bottle — and that faint worry your bag might end up heavier than your pocket money could handle.
Records, Cassettes, and First Singles
